Ajibade and Ojo practically grew up together in the
same neighborhood; they were best of friends and did everything together.
Together they had great dreams of becoming men of affluence, impacting their
society the best way they can, but as time goes on, they grew and became adults
the reality of life starring at them hard in the face, uncertain of what the
future holds, they both decided to consult a seer. The seer told Ajibade that he was going to die a poor
man and to Ojo that he was blessed
and was going to become rich. This revelation and new found reality brought
about a crack in their friendship; they both went their separate ways to embrace
their fate. While Ajibade decided to
go about farming at least he could have something to eat despite the prophesy, Ojo on the other hand made a new chair,
sat under the cotton tree in front of his house and was waiting for his riches
to come and meet him. Many years after, Ajibade
became very rich while Ojo died a miserable
poor man who lived from hand to mouth.
The morale of the story is: Never
expect God to do what He has empowered you to do as we see in the case of Ojo. Ajibade on the other hand took his destiny in his hands and decided
to make something of it and he got rewarded for it. A lot of young people today
find themselves in this situation, they want everything to be handed down to
them on a platter of gold, forgetting that nothing good comes easy, if it comes
easy, you won’t value it. You must learn to go the extra-mile on the path way
to success, if it is worth the hassle, it is also worth the effort.
